Why Home Euthanasia?

A home euthanasia provides a unique opportunity to say goodbye where you, your family, and your pet feel most comfortable.  A home euthanasia can be especially helpful if you are homebound or if your pet is large, fearful, or immobile.  Our desire is to help make the difficult time of euthanasia a little easier for both you and your pet.

It's All We Do

In-home pet euthanasia is the only veterinary service Loving Hands Home Euthanasia provides, so we are able to travel to your home and spend the necessary time to allow your entire family to say goodbye to your beloved pet in a comfortable private atmosphere.  Our goal is to provide peaceful and dignified in-home end-of-life care.

What You Can Expect

Following arrival at your home and examination of your pet, we will thoroughly explain the euthanasia process to all family members who choose to be present.  We will then sedate your pet in its favorite location, allowing you to stay with your pet as he or she falls asleep.  It typically takes between 5 to 10 minutes for the sedative to take effect.  Once fully asleep, a second injection of an anesthesia drug will be administered while you hold your pet.

Special Ways to Honor Your Pet

Following your pet’s passing, a hair clipping will be provided as a comforting keepsake, along with a sympathy brochure to help with the loss of your pet.  Should you wish, a personalized paw print may be made at that time.  If you choose to have your pet cremated, Loving Hands will handle the transportation of your pet to Faithful Pets Cremation when you are ready.  Following cremation, your pet’s ashes will be delivered to your regular veterinarian’s office.

As a professional courtesy to your regular veterinarian, we will notify him or her of your pet’s passing within 24 hours.  We will also notify other pet professionals such as your groomer or pet sitter, should you wish.

Please note that Loving Hands Home Euthanasia only provides services for dogs and cats at this time.

After-Care Options

Private Cremation

Your pet is cremated privately and the ashes are returned to your regular veterinarian’s office (generally within two weeks).  Transportation for your pet to Faithful Pets Cremation will be handled by Loving Hands Home Euthanasia.

Communal Cremation

Your pet is cremated with other pets and the ashes are then buried at the base of a new pear tree planted each year in a special section of Forest Hills Memory Gardens.  Transportation for your pet to Faithful Pets Cremation will be handled by Loving Hands Home Euthanasia.

Home Burial

Laws regarding the burial of pets at home vary depending on your location. Please research the laws in your community to determine if this is an option for your pet.

Sarah came to my home a few months ago and treated my little buddy, Merlin. Dr. Francis was wonderful! She followed my instructions to the letter and was so thoughtful and respectful. For Merlin it was so easy. He didn’t notice anything. He just fell asleep. I still have a hard time talking about it, but it couldn’t have been any more loving for my little buddy. Thank you Dr. Sarah Francis!
